The Public Works Department handles the maintenance of all approximately 58 miles of streets, 6 parks and public buildings along with the maintenance of the storm, water, and sewer systems.
The Village has a very dedicated group of 5 employees, 2 department heads, 1 superintendent and one administrative assistant who strive to have the village always looking its best. Whether mowing grass in the summer, clearing snow in the winter or maintaining the storm, water, and sewer systems, they work hard in all types of weather so that our residents and visitors can safely enjoy our village.

The Water Department is responsible for the improvement, repair, and maintenance of 3 wells, 3 water towers, one water treatment plant, one booster plant, and approximately 50 miles of water mains servicing approximately 1700 accounts. The Water Department is responsible for the installation of water service taps and the extension of water service to new developments within the Village.
Dwight is a Class 2 sand and gravel filter plant capable of up to 2 million gallons a day. The Water Department stays up to date with the ever-changing Illinois EPA regulations. We are currently working on our lead service replacement plan to eliminate all lead water services within the Village. Water quality and contaminate levels are monitored at the treatment plant daily and throughout the system weekly. The Village has a fire protection system with some larger mains to provide added pressure for 263 hydrants.
Joe, head operator in charge, has been with the Village since 2014. Tony Berta has been with the Village since 2016.

The Wastewater Department is responsible for protecting the citizens and waterways of Illinois. Daily responsibilities include the improvement, repair, and maintenance of the 29.5 miles of wastewater collection system, the wastewater treatment plant, associated infrastructure, and necessary equipment. The Wastewater Department is also responsible for keeping up with Illinois EPA required sampling and reporting. The Wastewater Department is responsible for the installation of sewer service connections and the extension of sewer services to new developments within the Village.
The wastewater plant was originally constructed in 1964. It is a 983,000 gallons per day maximum capacity activated sludge processing plant.
Sarah, head operator in charge, has been with the Village since Nov 2019. Bryce Mortensen has been employed since April 2022 as the number two of number twos.
